James A. Long, Esq.

Founder / Managing Partner (Corporate & Litigation)

Jim is a business attorney and trial lawyer who represents startups, founders, entrepreneurs, growth-stage companies, and public entities in litigation, business strategy, corporate transactions, intellectual property, and data privacy.

In an era of hyper-specialization, Jim is the rare generalist who can operate across multiple disciplines at a high level. His practice focuses on growth-oriented businesses and institutions that need sophisticated legal judgment across multiple domains.

Jim has extensive experience in complex civil litigation and can take a tough case to verdict in service of his client’s goals, or offer a path to compromise where needed. Outside of the courtroom, Jim advises clients on formation, financing, equity distribution, risk management, contracts, intellectual property strategy, data privacy and many other facets of business and management.

Jim was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. Prior to his law practice, Jim was a software developer for multiple startups from 1999 to 2007, sparking a lifelong passion for technology and entrepreneurship. After several years in two nationally recognized “BigLaw” firms, he moved to Syracuse, New York with his family in 2014. Jim founded Long Law in 2020, guided by the belief that technological innovation in the legal field was long overdue.

While based in Syracuse, Jim represents clients throughout New York, California and New Jersey. In addition to his work, he is an artist, musician, and jiu-jitsu competitor. He also serves as chairman of the foundation board of the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, NY.
